Cash markets had a better tone this week as supply continues to trickle away. Lower prices have attracted buyers with paltry inventory levels back allowing prices to firm and move up, especially for the fir species. WSPF #2&btr 2x4s are
quoted in a range of $330 wholesale – $350 mill per Mbf. Quotes at this time last year were trending much higher, trading in a range of $480 – $490 per Mbf.
Increasing building activity, combined with lower and lower supply levels should produce higher pricing ahead. Depending on weather patterns in the Atlantic this year, tropical storm developments may also play into a decent fall rally. Expect demand to tick up, supply to decline and prices to rise.
